In just over one week, Vodafone has sold 100,000 Apple iPhones to customers in the UK, half of which pre-ordered before last Thursday’s launch date.

France Joins Germany Warning Against Internet Explorer

This stuff about avoiding or abandoning IE6 is foolish. Everyone should abandon IE, period. These security problems will never end. How many strikes do they get before they’re out?
Also, if it’s true that Internet Explorer played some role in the Chinese security intrusion against Google, it raises the question of why in the world anyone at Google is using IE. What’s up with that?

Virgin Media starts keeping eye on dodgy downloads

Cable giant trialling broadband piracy system
Virgin Media is trialling a scheme that will identify whether its broadband customers are illegally downloading. The ISP is using Deep Packet Inspection (DPI) to identify the type of traffic (email, web surfing, gaming etc) a broadband connection is being used for.

Photographers Unite for Haiti Fundraising

As people around the world are bombarded by the striking aftermath photos from the Haiti earthquake, a group of photographers have quickly collaborated on a fundraising magazine for Haitian relief. Proceeds from the publication are being donated to the Red Cross.

Spearheaded by Bay Area photographer Lane Hartwell, Oné Respe collects images from pre-earthquake Haiti combined with essays. Contributions have been donated by photographers such as Peter Pereira, Mary Ellen Mark and Chet Gordon.

“I kept thinking, how can I do something with photography,” said Hartwell. “That’s the only thing I have to do anything with.”

The morning after Haiti suffered a 7.0 earthquake, Hartwell contacted Pereira who had been working in Haiti two months prior. ….
